Our services

Garden design

The design process :

1. It starts with a garden visit to find out more about your preferred planting style, your garden uses and plant choices. Then, we create a brief with all this information.

2. After that, your garden is surveyed (measured)and we asses the site (site analysis).

3. We start to shape the garden look visualising materials and plants through mood boards. This is how the concept for your garden is being shaped.

4.Then an initial sketch and design development follows after the client’s feedback.

5. Finally, you would get a presentation plan, planting plan and aftercare plan, if required.

Planting design

Considering textures, colours, form and site conditions we create a combination of plants to suit your garden style and your preferences.

It could be a new planting scheme, or just refreshing an existing one.

The planting can be done in the same style and just invigorated, or could be completely different.

Case study

It all begins with an idea, building a garden with sustainability at the core.

The brief

Create a low-maintenance garden for a rental flat by reusing existing and reclaimed materials where possible.

As this is a private garden with access to a large communal lawn, no further lawn was required.

The planting should make the clients feel immersed, and there should be a seating area, space for a shed and a water feature.

Before:

The old concrete slabs were either reused (as a base for the shed) or broken down and incorporated as a sub-base for the paving, as were other pieces of concrete that were under the slabs.

All of the fences and the gate needed to be replaced. We used FSC wood fencing and local tradesmen.

The gravel in between the slab joints was discarded from an allotment and recovered by the landscaper, then washed and reused in this project.

Reclaimed sandstone for paving in hues of red to offer continuity with the red brick in the property façade.

Some of the big slabs were cut into planks and laid asymmetrically for a sense of movement towards the central space.

Permeable joints to facilitate rain percolation were filled with the reclaimed gravel. Corten steel was used as it offers longevity and has a rusty red that matches the scheme.

We installed some pipes to guide the irrigation system hoses under the paving for aesthetic and practical reasons.

Below is the new layout and the newly planted borders. We used small size containers for the planting, as a more sustainable and cost effective option. We added some climbers, tall shrubs, herbaceous perennials, some bulbs and a tree (left hand side below). These will get established and develop a stronger root system as they grow.

Carbon sequestration is higher while the tree is young and growing, so if you are happy to start with a small tree, you will see it developing and, in time, it will give good shade.

The final product is a garden that creates a central space for relaxation and privacy. It also serves as a passage, leading to access of a big communal lawn at the back.

There is a space reserved for a water feature, a shed and a raised bed that could be used to grow some vegetables. It is clean, easy to maintain, and offers food and habitat for wildlife, more and more so as it grows and develops.
